Taxi passengers can save 10% on each trip with new FREENOW PLUS subscription service

Passengers who sign up to FREENOW PLUS in October will get the first month free

Avoiding the worry of missing the last bus and reaching their intended destination quickly are the top reasons Irish consumers choose taxis as their preferred public transport option. That’s according to a new passenger survey* published today (09.10.24) by FREENOW, as it launches its new subscription service FREENOW PLUS.

The new subscription service offers passengers a 10% discount on every taxi journey booked through the FREENOW app, with the first month free for anyone who signs up for the service before the end of October.

Taking a taxi continues to rank as a popular travel option for Irish consumers, with 74% of FREENOW passengers reporting they take a taxi at least once a month**. More than 80% of passengers consider taking a taxi a form of relaxation, with most passengers passing time by looking out the window or scrolling through social media. Social events topped the poll as the favourite reason to book a taxi, with 79% of passengers wanting to get home from a night out, 47% going out for dinner, 39% visiting friends, and 30% going to a concert or the theatre.

Danny O’Gorman, General Manager at FREENOW Ireland, said: “We know that people in Ireland frequently travel by taxi, whether that’s to get home from a night out, travel to the airport or go out for dinner. With our new subscription, FREENOW PLUS passengers will be able to save €12 euros per month on average on their trips. Taxis are a crucial door-to-door public transport service, and we are delighted to launch this subscription to reward our frequent users with unique discounts that they can take advantage of when travelling around Ireland.”

The survey also reveals that concerns about public transport options are an influencing factor for passengers in choosing to book a taxi. Over half of passengers reported taking a taxi to avoid worrying about missing the last bus or train home or to travel somewhere with no direct public transport link. More than 60% of passengers also listed getting to and from the airport as one of their top reasons to book a taxi. Of those who choose taxis as their preferred transport option to the airport, 37% pointed to not having to carry luggage on the bus as a key benefit.

The growing number of drivers joining the FREENOW fleet is enhancing the service levels provided to passengers, with an average wait time for a taxi of 17.5 seconds for ride acceptance and 3.5 minutes for driver arrival**, reflecting the hard work of driver partners who are dedicated to providing a prompt and reliable service for passengers across the country.

Passengers can try FREENOW PLUS for free if they sign up during the month of October. After, the subscription will be €6.99 per month, and a 10% discount applies to all trips taken via taxi, ebike and pedal bike up to a limit of €10 off per journey - allowing passengers to save €12 euros per month on average on their trips.
