The GM’s role will be focused on strengthening and expanding FREENOW’s taxi  services across London and beyond

London, 27th March 2025 - FREENOW, London’s No.1 Taxi App, has today announced the appointment of Danny O’Gorman as the new General Manager for the UK market. Danny will oversee FREENOW’s operations across the country, with a strategic focus on supporting and strengthening London’s Black Cab trade and expanding taxi services in key UK cities.

His appointment comes at a crucial time for London’s iconic Black Cab industry - in London taxis have fallen dramatically over the past decade, from 22,810 in 2013-14 to just 14,470 in 2023-24. A new report from the Centre for London warns that Black Cabs could vanish from the capital’s streets by 2045 unless urgent action is taken by the government, the Mayor of London and Transport for London.

Danny’s leadership will be crucial in tackling these challenges. FREENOW is dedicated to championing the black cab trade and ensuring its long-term viability by providing drivers with optimal earning opportunities, access to technology that enhances their businesses, and the necessary support to keep this essential service thriving. A primary focus will be on increasing ride demand, enhancing driver benefits, and advocating for policies that protect the trade's future while continuing to offer passengers a safe, convenient and reliable taxi service.

Danny brings a breadth of experience from his current role as a General Manager for FREENOW in Ireland, where the company is the leader in the taxi market, and from prior senior positions at Amazon and Catawiki. At Amazon, he led new seller partnerships and managed large-scale logistic projects, while at Catawiki, he played a key role in scaling sales teams and optimising commercial operations across Europe. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Trinity College Dublin.

In his role, Danny will also oversee the expansion of FREENOW’s taxi services beyond its established presence in major cities across the UK, including London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Oxford. He will continue to strengthen the existing relationships with black cab drivers and taxi fleet owners while collaborating closely with key stakeholders and partners to ensure the taxi trade remains at the forefront of the EV transition.

Commenting on his appointment, Danny O’Gorman said:

“I am honoured to take on this role at such a critical time for our taxi industry. Black cabs are not just an iconic part of London’s identity; they are a vital transport service that requires protection and support. My priority is to continue to work closely with drivers to ensure that they have the tools, opportunities, and backing they need to thrive and work closely with policymakers to grow and strengthen the taxi industry for the future.”

Tim Arnold, General Manager Europe for FREENOW, added

“We are delighted to welcome Danny to lead our UK business. His experience in the taxi sector in Ireland, combined with his prior experience in marketplace operations, logistics, and sales, makes him the perfect person to drive FREENOW’s next phase of growth in the UK. We are fully committed to London’s Black Cab trade and believe that under Danny’s leadership, we will continue to offer the best support for drivers and the best experience for passengers.”
