How to ride Cooltra eMopeds with FREENOW

Ready to take your first trip on a Cooltra eMoped, but not sure how to get started? You’re in the right place...

Add your driving licence and ID

You need to add your driving licence, ID and residential address to use a Cooltra eMoped. It’s super quick and easy to validate them before renting  – just follow the instructions on screen when starting a rental and you’ll be ready to hit the road in no time. Plus, you’ll only need to do it once and you’ll be able to use all our services. Just a quick note…for now we can only accept your national EU ID cards, EU passports or EU residence permits.

If you’ve already validated your driving licence and ID with FREENOW, you’re ready to go.

Find and unlock

Find your Cooltra eMoped on the in-app map, then tap to start the rental. Unlock your eMoped with the app and your vehicle will start honking and flashing...don’t be surprised, this is so you know you’ve got the right one.

Getting road ready

Once you’ve unlocked, here’s what you need to do before hitting the open road...

  1. Open the helmet box by firmly pressing the button under the driver seat on the left side, or on the top case of the moped (depending on the model). Grab a helmet. You’ll also find hair nets and hygienic wipes under the seat. If you’re travelling with someone, please ensure both you and your passenger wear the helmets provided. Get your eMoped off the kickstand by firmly lowering it. 
  2. Start the eMoped – press the “START” button on the right of the wheel or right underneath it (depending on the model). Aaaand go!
  3. Wanna speed up? Firmly push the right hand of the wheel towards you and feel the wind whizz past you.
  4. Time to slow down? Just squeeze the brake lever on the right.

Safety is key

  • Be attentive: watch out for large vehicles, do not drive in blind spots and always be focused on, and aware of your surroundings, traffic and pedestrians.
  • ALWAYS wear a helmet – this is mandatory for both you and your passenger. 
  • Please obey local traffic laws and remember that you can’t drive eMopeds in bike lanes. 
  • Never drink and drive. If you need to get home after a drink or two, switch tabs and take a taxi instead.

Park mode

Want to do some quick grocery shopping or grab a coffee during your rental? No problem. You can put the eMoped in park mode. Just pull over, open the FREE NOW app and tap ‘Park’ for the active rental on screen – the helmet box will be locked and the immobiliser activated, so no one else will nab the eMoped whilst you’re away. When you’re ready, simply tap ‘Continue trip’ and hit the road again.

Ending your rental

To end your trip, park the eMoped inside the area marked on the map. Push the kickstand down, place the helmets in the helmet box or under the seat (depending on the model) and lock it. Open the app and tap the ‘End rental’ button.

Make sure to find a suitable spot for your eMoped and be considerate when parking. Watch out for no-parking signs and DO NOT block sidewalks, bike or bus lanes, private entryways or driveways. Local authorities may charge you a fine if you don’t follow these parking rules.
