Fancy hitting the town on one of our eScooters but not sure where to begin? This helpful guide tells you everything you need to know.
Add your IDAdd your ID
In Lyon before riding a Dott eScooter, add your ID to validate it. Follow the instructions in your app and you’ll be done in less than a minute!
If you’ve already validated your ID with FREENOW, you’re ready to go!
Unlock’n’RollUnlock’n’Roll
Head to the 2-wheels tab in our app to find your eScooter on the map. Use the info on the scooter to make sure you’ve got the right one (they sometimes come in packs). You can also scan a scooter’s QR code. Unlock it with the app and you’re good to go!
Safety is keySafety is key
- Bring your own helmet (follow local helmet laws).
- Wipe the handlebars before and after use, and follow local health and sanitation rules.
- Never scoot on highways or motorways.
- Pay attention to local signage and stay on bike lanes when possible.
- Don’t drink and scoot! You can always switch tabs and get a taxi instead.
Starting your scooter & speeding upStarting your scooter & speeding up
Step on the deck with one foot and push off with the other. Then keep both feet as you begin to move. Gently use the right hand lever to speed up. Go steady though, particularly if this is your first time.
Yellow means slowerYellow means slower
In some areas, your scooter will automatically slow down to comply with local laws. These are slow zones and are marked in yellow on your map.
Park mode ONPark mode ON
If you need to make a stop, open your app and tap 'Park'. When you’re ready to go again just tap 'Continue rent'. Take your time though! When in park mode, reduced rates are applied.

To slow down, release your throttle handle and gently press the brake handles (both handlebars feature a brake). Careful not to be too firm, or you’ll stop immediately.
When you’re finishedWhen you’re finished
To end your trip, park the eScooter in a designated area (look out for signs in your local area, or check the app) and tap the ‘End rental’ button. Be sure to tap it right away, as your trip is charged by the minute. Be a kind human being and NEVER block sidewalks, bike lanes or driveways.

In Lyon and Bordeaux we will ask you to take a photo of your parked Dott before ending your rental. It’s quick and easy! We’ll take you through every step. Make sure that your scooter is in a designated parking zone and that it doesn’t block sidewalks, bike lanes or driveways.
